A MILITARY/ARMY blanket is a large piece of woven fabric intended to keep the user warm, especially while sleeping , sitting out, in house or lying down. A blanket traps the radiant heat from the user’s body, and instead of dissipating into the air, it warms the user. It also protects against heat being lost by convection.
WHY MILITARY /ARMY USE BLANKETS:
Blankets have been used in the Army/Military/Navy wings .Blankets are thicker; even the thinnest blanket is thicker than the heaviest sheet. Blankets are generally used for warmth and comfort, Blankets are traditionally made of wool because of wool’s warmth, breathability and natural fire-retardant properties, Wool blankets are warmer and also relatively slow to burn compared to cotton and synthetic fibers.
Most militaries have blankets as compulsory for sleeping quarters in preference to duvets. Militaries are some of the biggest single consumers of woolen blankets. Military blankets tend to be coarse grey with a high level of microns A micron also known as micrometer is the measurement used to express the diameter of wool & its fiber. Fine wool fibers have low micron value. Fiber diameter is the most important characteristic of wool in determining its greasy value.
Wool fibers have fantastic properties like it absorbs water quite fast but are not hollow. Wool can absorb almost one-third of its own weight in water. Wool absorbs sound like many other fabrics. It is generally a creamy white color, although some breeds of sheep produce natural colors, such as black, brown, silver, and random mixes.
Wool ignites at a higher temperature than viscose/ cotton and some synthetic fibers. It has a lower rate of flame spread and a lower rate of heat release, a lower heat of combustion, and does not melt or drip. it forms a char which is insulating and self-extinguishing.
